Project Summary

Driveway, Concrete Patio, and Paver Patio Cleaning

This May project focused on several hardscape surfaces at one Forest Grove home. The driveway had dirt and moss in the joints, while the back paver patio had weeds, organic buildup, and dirty areas around furniture, planting beds, and the privacy hedge that needed more than a quick rinse.

The work included pretreating the patio for algae and moss, giving it a short dwell time, protecting nearby plants and house surfaces with water, then pressure washing the driveway, back concrete patio, and paver patio with a surface cleaner. On the pavers, pressure was dialed back on the commercial machine to reduce the chance of removing joint sand unnecessarily.

The Problem

Dirty Flatwork, Mossy Joints, and Patio Weeds

The concrete and pavers were durable enough for professional cleaning, but the details around the joints, plants, and runoff mattered.

Paver Patio Growth

The back paver patio had weeds growing in places and visible organic buildup across the surface and joints.

Driveway Joint Debris

The driveway joints held dirt and moss that needed to be removed and hauled away rather than washed toward drains.

Nearby Landscaping

The patio and driveway areas were close to lawn, shrubs, planters, and house surfaces, so property protection was part of the setup.

Curbs at the Street

The curb line was cleaned too, giving the front approach a more finished look after the driveway work.

Our Process

Pretreatment, Plant Protection, and Controlled Surface Cleaning

The paver patio was pretreated to help loosen algae and moss. After about 10 minutes of dwell time, nearby plants, lawn edges, and house surfaces were watered as part of the property protection process before pressure washing began.

The driveway, back concrete patio, and paver patio were cleaned with a surface cleaner for even passes across the flatwork. On the paver patio, the pressure was reduced on the commercial machine so the cleaning could remove buildup without aggressively blasting out the sand between the pavers.

Loose moss, dirt, and debris from the driveway joints were collected and hauled away instead of being pushed down drains. The street curbs were cleaned as part of the final detail work.

Jobsite Detail

The Back Patio Had More Than Surface Dirt

The paver patio was not just dusty. The weeds and organic growth in the joints showed that moisture had been sitting there long enough for buildup to take hold, which is common around shaded Forest Grove patios and landscaped backyards.

That is why pretreatment and controlled pressure matter on pavers. The goal is to clean the patio and make it usable again without treating the joint sand like it is the dirt you are trying to remove.

Results

Cleaner Driveway, Patio, Pavers, and Curb Line

The driveway looked brighter after the dirt and moss were removed from the surface and joints. The back patio areas cleaned up well, and the paver patio had the weeds and organic buildup addressed with a more careful approach around the joints.

The loosened material was hauled away, the curbs at the street were cleaned, and the customer was happy with the finished result.

Local Notes

Forest Grove Patios Stay Damp for a Reason

Forest Grove homes often deal with moss, algae, and weed growth on hardscape because shaded yards, mature landscaping, and long wet seasons keep patios and driveway joints damp. Paver patios near fences, hedges, and planting beds can hold moisture even after the rest of the property dries out.

For similar Forest Grove work, Suds Doctor pairs pressure washing with surface-specific care so concrete, pavers, curbs, and nearby landscaping are handled differently instead of being cleaned with one setting everywhere.

FAQ

Forest Grove Driveway and Patio Cleaning FAQs

Practical answers based on this driveway, concrete patio, and paver patio cleaning project.

Can paver patios be pressure washed without removing all the joint sand?

Many paver patios can be cleaned carefully, but loose joint sand can move during pressure washing. On this project, the machine pressure was dialed back and the surface cleaner was used with care around the joints.

Why pretreat a patio before pressure washing?

Pretreatment helps loosen algae, moss, and organic buildup before rinsing. For this Forest Grove patio, the pretreatment was allowed to dwell before the surface cleaning work started.

Do you protect landscaping during pressure washing?

Yes. Property protection can include wetting surrounding plants, rinsing nearby house surfaces, and managing runoff so the cleaning process is controlled around landscaping and exterior finishes.

Do you clean up moss and dirt from driveway joints?

When moss, dirt, and loose debris come out of driveway joints, they should be collected and disposed of properly instead of being pushed into the street or storm drains.

Can pressure washing remove every patio stain?

Pressure washing removes a lot of dirt, algae, moss, and surface grime. Deep discoloration, old stains, rust, or material wear may improve without disappearing completely.
