Fourth of July Chalk Cleanup in Downtown Hillsboro

After the Fourth of July parade, chalk used by families to mark viewing spots was still visible along parts of the parade route. Suds Doctor Exterior Cleaning donated an early-morning cleanup at three Downtown Hillsboro locations as an in-kind sponsorship for the Downtown Hillsboro Partnership.

Project Story

Cleaning Three Areas Along the Parade Route

Families had used chalk to claim viewing spots along the Fourth of July parade route. With very little rain after the parade, much of it was still visible on the sidewalks when the Downtown Hillsboro Partnership asked if Suds Doctor Exterior Cleaning could help.

We cleaned three of the heavier areas: two along NE 2nd Avenue and one on E Main Street. The work was donated as an in-kind sponsorship and scheduled from approximately 6:00 to 8:00 a.m., before downtown pedestrian and business activity picked up.

Early-Morning Setup

Working Around Downtown Sidewalks, Landscaping, and Foot Traffic

The Partnership arranged access to nearby water hookups so we could move between the three locations. We used cones and tape to separate pedestrians from hoses, equipment, and wet pavement while each area was active.

Some larger sections were surface cleaned, while edges and smaller areas were handled separately. The work crossed stamped red sidewalk, standard gray concrete, curb transitions, tree wells, landscaping, and utility covers, so the setup changed as we moved from one location to the next.

A detail that mattered here was the number of surface transitions packed into a relatively small downtown area. The chalk crossed control joints, curved stamped panels, standard sidewalk squares, and narrow spaces beside shrubs and tree grates. Cleaning those sections evenly required more than making one straight surface-cleaner pass.

Community Support

A Practical In-Kind Sponsorship for Downtown Hillsboro

Starting early gave us room to work without blocking the busiest part of the downtown day. The three-location scope was small enough to complete in one morning but spread out enough that water access, equipment placement, and pedestrian safety still had to be coordinated.

This was a practical way for Suds Doctor Exterior Cleaning to support the Downtown Hillsboro Partnership and help clean up the parade route after a well-used community event.

Results

Clearer Sidewalks at All Three Locations

The parade chalk cleaned off well across the three locations. The stamped red sidewalks and standard concrete panels were substantially clearer afterward, although the pavement was still wet when the final photos were taken.
